"Arab and Arab American Feminisms" wins Arab American Book Award

Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies Rabab Abdulhadi's co-authored book on Arab and Arab American feminism wins the 2012 Arab American Book Award in the award's non-fiction category. A recent piece by Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi, senior scholar of AMED, describes growing up in Palestine after the 1967 war when Lelia Khaied emerged as a role model for young Palestinian girls. Abdulhadi describes everyday resistance and the role women—including her mother and aunt—played. Abdulhadi says "As I sat through the first two days of the New World Coming Conference listening to speakers, I expected to hear references to the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, and the Sinai Peninsula."
