It depicts aspects of the life of the iconic Palestinian-American Professor, Dr. Edward Said, including his books and skylines of Jerusalem (his city of birth) and New York (where he taught at Columbia University). Other elements represent Palestinian-American culture. The mural is on the northern wall of the Cesar Chavez Student Center. The Center also features murals dedicated to Pan-Asian, Filipino, and Native American history and culture, as well as activists Cesar Chavez and Malcolm X.

The event is sponsored by San Francisco State Universities’ Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas Initiative (AMED). Co-sponsors include the Cesar Chavez Student Center (SF State), the General Union of Palestinian Students (SF State), and other community organizations.

Following the November 1st public event, speakers will take part in closed meetings to further discuss themes covered by both delegations, including situating the Palestinian experience in Ethnic Studies, Cross-Border Studies, and Indigenous Studies, as well as discussing the relationships between academic and grassroots movements in each discipline.
